Unique Geology and Biodiversity on the Top of the Madonie

Enjoy amazing geology and biodiversity with this hike to Pizzo Carbonara (1979m), the highest peak of the Madonie Park. You will walk through surprising landscapes shaped by the action of water on the limestone rock, with numerous sea fossils hidden in the stones, and rare plants and butterflies in every direction.

Madonie Explorers’ experienced nature guide will help you discover and understand fascinating details about this unique natural landscape.

When you reach Pizzo Carbonara, you will be rewarded with a fantastic 360-degree panoramic view. On clear days, you will be able to see along the Tyrrhenian coast as far as Palermo and an extensive portion of Sicily’s hinterland as well as Mount Etna.

While you plan your trip, you might also like to consider our longer 3-day Trek in the Madonie Natural Park, which includes the Pizzo Carbonara hike.

Where and when to meet?

You will meet your guide in Piano Battaglia (Province of Palermo) at 9:30 am. If you aren’t sure where this is, don’t worry, as you will be provided with a map indicating the meeting point when you book.
