The manna, precious sap of the ash trees with many beneficial properties, is still harvested every summer in the country near Castelbuono. This tradition has now disappeared in the rest of South Italy. It survives here thanks to the efforts of a few passionate people.
You will meet Mario, a young manna producer, in one of the ash tree groves he deals with. He will show you all the steps of the extraction process. He will also explain what the manna is used for, in particular in natural medicine but also in cosmetics and pastry.
During the visit, participants will taste manna.

We organise encounters with a manna producer all year long, although the harvest period is in summer (July-August - the exact dates can slightly vary), to give everybody the opportunity to get to know this unique and endangered tradition.

Note: the first 100 m of the trail that leads to the visit place are steep.
What to bring:
Comfortable shoes, clothes suitable to the weather conditions (hat in summer)
Meet the producer on his land located a few kilometres from Castelbuono (you will be provided with a map indicating the meeting point when you book). The meeting time can vary according to the producer's availability.
