This tour offers a unique way to explore Cefalù, combining a nature hike with an urban walk — far from the classical cultural tour. You’ll discover surprising hidden spots without missing the town’s main attractions, and you’ll learn how nature helped shape the destiny of this former fishing village.
Our excursion begins with a hike up La Rocca, the massive rock that towers over the town. It’s home to prehistoric remains and an ancient defensive structure with crenellated walls, surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation. We’ll pause to take in breathtaking views of Cefalù’s rooftops, the port, and the Tyrrhenian coastline. Along the way, we’ll explore fascinating ruins, including the so-called Temple of Diana (Tempio di Diana), and search for sea fossils embedded in the rock.
We’ll then head into the narrow streets of old Cefalù, where daily life unfolds peacefully, away from the crowds. You’ll experience the authentic Sicilian atmosphere — with linen hanging from balconies and the scent of home-cooked meals in the air. We’ll also stroll along the seafront to admire the insolite megalithic walls and stop at the must-see landmarks such as the Arab-Norman Cathedral, the old port (Porticciolo), Porta Pescara, and the medieval washing place. If you’ve seen the latest Indiana Jones movie, you might recognize a few locations!
You will meet your guide at Piazza Colombo (at the start of the seafront) in Cefalù. You will be provided with a map indicating the meeting point when you book.

Cefalù is much more than a sea resort with a beautiful cathedral surrounded by gelaterias and souvenir shops. It is full of picturesque hidden corners, curiosities and traces of a fascinating past dating back to 3,000 years ago. You would surely miss most of these unexpected gems touring on your own.
Access to the Rocca requires sport shoes with good grip (no smooth soles) as the trail is irregular and rocky. Entry to the Rocca can be denied to people wearing unapropriate shoes, like sandals.
If you don’t have suitable shoes, don’t worry: we can lend you hiking shoes for free. Just make sure to indicate your size on the booking form.
Yes, you will meet your guide in Piazza Colombo at the start of the sea walk. It’s easily accessible from the historic center, or if you come by train or taxi. If you reach Cefalù with your own car, make sure to arrive in advance, as finding a place to park may require some time.

We constantly monitor the weather to ensure that guests can enjoy the tour under the right conditions. Of course, this doesn’t mean the excursion will only run with perfect sunshine, but in case of rain Madonie Explorers will cancel the excursion, as the Rocca will be automatically closed. Participants can rebook for another date or request a refund.
Of course it’s going to be hot in Cefalù in summer, and this is why we start summer tours at 9 am and 4 pm to avoid peak heats. If you feel that reaching the top of the Rocca could be too challenging, we can do an easier itinerary that includes the best spots and views anyway. In the old town, we will walk in the shade of the small streets and enjoy sea breeze on a coastal path.
This tour is not considered particularly difficult and is suitable for a wide range of people. Of course, this applies to those who are generally fit and do not have specific health issues that might limit their mobility. The hiking part of the tour, on the Rocca, can be adapted if you feel that reaching the top could be too challenging. This easier itinerary will include the best spots and views anyway. If you’re unsure whether this tour is right for you, please contact us.
Solo travelers are welcome! Our minimum booking is two adults (€130 total), but you can book as a solo traveler at the 2-person rate, or we may be able to pair you with another solo traveler – please contact us to check availability.
You can book online through this website until 6 p.m. the day before the hike. We encourage you to book or contact us as soon as possible to ensure we are available during your visit.
We fully refund bookings cancelled at least 48 hours before the excursion. Cancellations made less than 48 hours in advance are non-refundable. This policy is necessary for planning purposes and also ensures fair working conditions for our guides, who are independent professionals.
