Mediterranean Plants Remedies: Half-day Workshop

This half-day workshop is a hands-on immersion into Sicilian landscapes, vegetation and traditions. You’ll pick plants from the Mediterranean scrub and the local cultivations to turn them into remedies and natural care products: a tincture from fresh-picked plants, an oil maceration worked into your own salve, a smudge stick to take home. Add a manna tasting, a beauty mask, and a herbal tea break to round things off, and you’ll leave with both finished products and the know-how to remake them at home.
We’ll use local plants which belong to the classic Mediterranean vegetation, like wild calendula, rosemary, and more: most of them are easy to find or grow. 

Laetitia will host you on her hilltop land with stunning views near Castelbuono, in the country at the foot of the Madonie Mountains, the richest region of Sicily regarding biodiversity. An English-speaking nature guide, she started picking wild edible and medicinal plants with local people more than 15 years ago. She has also trained with expert botanists and herbalists, combining traditional uses with scientific research.

The experience includes the following activities:

• Short guided walk to get familiar with the local vegetation
  Immerse yourself in the charm of the Mediterranean scrub and the hills covered by olive, almond and manna ash trees.
• Wild plants picking (plants will vary according to the season)
  Get familiar with wild edible and medicinal plants foraging, discover how much nature has to offer in terms of scents, tastes and unexpected properties.
• Tincture preparation
  With fresh plants picked on the spot.
• Oil maceration + salve making
  Learn how to get high quality plants macerations and how to make a natural salve (ointment) from which you will no longer be able to separate yourself. For this, we will use our own olive oil produced locally. 
• Manna tasting & Manna beauty mask
  Taste this very local specialty full of medicinal properties and have a manna beauty mask while you’re relaxing under the shade of the trees.
• Smudge sticks making
  Prepare your own smoke sticks and learn about the benefits of this ancient practice.
• Herbal tea
  During the workshop you will have the opportunity to taste herbal teas from the local plants and to learn about their properties.
