Embark on an educational tour to learn about manna and how it is produced in the Madonie Regional Park.
Manna is precious sap of the ash trees found in the Madonie Regional Park. The production of manna is a tradition that goes back many centuries. Manna has many beneficial properties and is still harvested every summer in the groves near Castelbuono. This tradition has now disappeared in the rest of South Italy. Manna production survives here thanks to the efforts of a few passionate people.
On this manna tour in the Madonie, you will meet Mario in one of the ash tree groves where he produces manna. He will show you each step of the extraction process and explain what the manna is used for. Manna is especially useful in natural medicine but it is also used in cosmetics and pastry. You will learn all the details on the tour. During the visit, participants will also have the opportunity to taste manna.
This is a short experience (90 minutes); if you’d like a longer experience we recommend our Traditional Sicilian Country Tour as it focuses on local traditions and cultivations, and includes a manna tasting.
Meet the producer on his land located a few kilometres from Castelbuono. You will be provided with a map indicating the meeting point when you book. You can always contact us to ask for more information. The meeting time can vary according to the producer’s availability. Each guest will then reach the starting point of the trail in their own vehicle.
