Hike in one of the Madonie’s magical woods

This hike in the Madonie will lead you to an area of the Madonie Park rich in huge, monumental trees. There are uncharacteristically large oaks, maple trees, and beech trees, but one species of tree stands out from the others…

Our main stop on this Madonie hiking tour is in a truly extraordinary place: an entire wood of giant hollies. These gargantuan holly trees are several centuries old and reach nearly 20m high. While not a distinct species, they are unique in the world for their size, number, and geographic location in the heart of the Mediterranean.

If you like the sounds of this excursion and you’d like a longer hike in which to experience Madonie National Park, you might like to consider our Full-Day Hike in the Madonie National Park instead.

Stopping at Piano Pomo and Cozzo Luminario

What’s the point in hiking through Sicily’s most beautiful national park if you can’t stop now and then to appreciate the staggering natural beauty? We will stop at Piano Pomo (1,400m) and Cozzo Luminario (1,512m); here, we will enjoy beautiful panoramic views of the Madonie Mountains. On clear days, we can even see as far as Mount Etna.

Along the trail, you will be able to observe many interesting plants and rare endemic species with our naturalist guide. On your way, you will probably cross paths with some of the Madonie Mountains’ inhabitants: birds, fallow deer, butterflies, coleopters, and many more. Keep reading to learn more about this Madonie hiking trip, and please get in touch if you have any questions.
